Volker Sorge has a passion for developing pragmatic solutions to hard accessibility
problems. For many years Volker has worked on STEM accessibility, concentrating
on accessible mathematics, scientific diagrams and data visualisations. He has
contributed to several open source projects in this area and is still an active
member of the MathJax team. Volker has worked as an accessiblity consultant for
over ten years with industrial partners, he has worked as an invited scientist
at Google as well as founded his own startup in 2015.
Volker has studied Mathematics, Computer Science and Philosophy at the
University of Würzburg, University of Texas at Austin, and University
Saarbrücken. He holds a Research Masters in Mathematics and a PhD in Artificial
Intelligence (Computational Logic). Volker still holds a chair as Professor of
Computer Science at the University of Birmingham, UK and and Adjunct Faculty
position at IIT Delhi.
Neha, the Product Manager at Helix Opportunity, has dedicated her career to understanding the needs of disabled users, ensuring their perspectives shape inclusive assistive technology products. Armed with both technical and managerial skills, she excels as a leader in the field. Neha's passion and self-motivation drive her mission to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities through innovative and inclusive technology solutions. As a dedicated accessibility professional, she kickstarted her career at Assistech Lab, IIT Delhi, focusing on STEM digital content accessibility and indoor navigation. Additionally, Neha serves as an invited speaker in the W3C APA (Accessible Platform Architectures) working group, contributing to the advancement of accessibility standards.
Lucero brings with her a passion for building relationships, community, and belonging, amongst all of human diversity. Prior to joining Helix Opportunity, she enjoyed a 20 year career in the international travel and tourism industry. Her focus on inclusive travel and tourism set a high standard for global events management, that she has been involved in, such as the: Olympics, United Nations Conference Of Parties (COP), as well as more personalized programs for Celebrity Expeditions, National Geographic, and Young Presidents Organization, to name a few. Lucero now takes great pride, and pleasure, in building new relationships with organizations to unlock the power of human inclusion and facilitate harmony at work, around the globe for Helix Opportunity.
Monique Morales is a devoted caregiver, conservator, and advocate for individuals with disabilities. With two decades of community engagement, Monique has collaborated with non-profits and the regional center, navigating IEP and IPP processes. As an advocate and guide for fellow parents, Monique offers support and insights. Professionally, she excels in assisting consumers with staffing opportunities and coaching services, serving as a primary contact and advocate.
In a voluntary role at a major defense corporation, Monique pioneered a successful pilot program in collaboration with Helix Opportunity, placing a skilled candidate in a distinguished scientist role. She embodies a commitment to creating meaningful opportunities and support systems for individuals with disabilities, embodying the values of inclusivity, advocacy, and success.
Carolyn A. Schoenian has been an educator, curriculum manager, and instructor in Information Technology, Education, and Digital Accessibility for over 20 years. Ms. Schoenian has many years of in-classroom and online training in commercial, academic, and Federal Government environments. She holds an advanced certificate in Adult Education and is a Certified Accessibility Professional. She expects to complete her doctorate in Human Factors in the Spring 2024.
Himanshu has worked in tech for nearly 2 decades at software development companies, non-profits and academia. In his recent roles he has contributed to tools for improving infrastructure security and on tools for improving textbook accessibility. In spare time, he has volunteered for MDN Web Docs and Translators without Borders.
