Consulting

Research Development & Planning

Helix Opportunity works with companies, from all industries, to identify the proper requirements to evaluate the customer experience that consumers with disabilities have when engaging with a product, environment, or service. We assist our clients in determining the most effective research methodology, and how to execute it. Over the past 15 years, we have developed unique expertise in customer experience research, with a particular focus on the neuro-psychological and cognitive domains. We create research studies that delve beyond typical automated or manual accessibility tests to explore your customers’ emotional responses, elation, frustration, as well as confusion. This approach reveals the more abstract barriers in both physical and digital contexts, while also discovering opportunities to provide a more meaningful experience.

Research Execution at our San Francisco Research Center, Client Location, Online, or at any Global Location

In-person customer experience research can be conducted at any location (worldwide) or at our San Francisco Research Center. Our center can accommodate studies with up to 20 people at a time and is appointed with all necessary equipment and resources. Our operation is also portable, which provides you with the flexibility to name the time and the place, anywhere in the world. We can also perform the location search and secure an appropriate venue for you.

A Deep Dive: Usability Studies

Helix Opportunity provides usability studies focused exclusively on people with disabilities for some of the top Fortune-ranked companies. Usability studies are an integral component of user-centered design. They provide accurate data through the collection and analysis of direct input on how real users with disabilities use real products and services. This process provides design teams with accurate information to create more meaningful products and services.

We utilize unique neuropsychological research methods to objectively measure consumers’ attention and spontaneous responses to marketing messages and human-computer interaction. These insights help marketers and designers effectively design experiences that catch the shopper’s eye and deliver meaningful interaction.

Our scientific techniques provide insight on how consumers react to different marketing
messages and user interfaces, and interpretation of their cognitive engagement, in real-time. It
minimizes recall errors and the social desirability effect while revealing information conventional
research methods normally miss.

This same technique can be applied to employee performance. Studying on-job activities through this method captures subconscious and unbiased data through implicit methods. We open a window for you to observe your business through the eyes of your employees, and provide a better understanding of their work environment and human factors influencing their performance. Such objective and instant insights will help to improve training, productivity, and safety in the workplace.

Method 1: Brain Wave Mapping
Helix Opportunity maps users’ brain waves to provide more precise recognition of facial
expressions, emotions, and conscious thought. Revealing user brain activity provides new
insights into both conscious and unconscious actions. Typical user testing requires researchers to prompt users to describe their reactions to what they are seeing or doing. It can be often
difficult for users to articulate exactly what they are thinking and feeling. Our methodology reveals these reactions taking shape on the screen, informing designers whether or not a page really held a user’s attention, or if a task was frustrating or not.

Understanding your users’ state of mind and emotions empowers designers with the necessary
data to design environments that can adapt themselves based on our mood or attention level.

Method 2: Attention and Focus Mapping
Helix Opportunity monitors, and analyzes attentional processes, compares group behavior,
measures stimuli-induced visual responses and more.

We provide a better understanding of customer experience and product performance by measuring visual attention to key messages in product advertisements, placement and branding, package design, and interaction.

Our methodology provides compelling objective data that reveals the human behavior behind usability issues. User Experience (UX), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researchers, and design teams use this data to evaluate interfaces for the optimal user experience.

Quickly and easily learn where users look and how they behave while interacting with a website or software. This method offers a quick way of detecting and explaining usability issues that will engage designers, developers, and clients in the process. Our process provides data on:

  • How users behave when interacting with your digital property
  • Where users expect to find information
  • How users interact with your interface
  • How users interact with the dynamic content on your digital property

Our process also provides visual maps that reflect how users look at a digital property or
interface, which key elements they look at, and what areas attract the most attention. This data
visualization method communicates the important aspects of visual behavior clearly and
powerfully. It accurately reveals:

  • What attracts your users’ attention
  • How users typically look at a digital property when executing a task
  • How users distribute their attention over a stimulus
  • What areas of the digital property or design are visually omitted

Global Research Participants Recruiting, with Any Disability

Our research studies can utilize existing users if the needed range of sensory and functional capabilities is present in the user group. Or, we can recruit users with the designated disabilities and other necessary characteristics to provide a representative sample.

Training

Helix Opportunity works with corporate UX teams and researchers, to provide them with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to execute effective professional research focused on customers with disabilities. We also skill up teams to incorporate neuropsychological and cognitive design approaches.

Serving customers with disabilities is typically treated as a technical compliance issue, with legal ramifications. Most companies consider accessibility a goal rather than a floor. The opinions of people with disabilities are rarely considered during the development of physical or digital environments and services. This results in websites, mobile applications, and other technologies that may comply with accessibility standards, but are still not usable.
